On the occasion of the resignation of Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer, Ingrid Korosec, President of the ÖVP Seniors, expresses her great appreciation and gratitude for his tireless commitment and leadership during his term of office.
“Karl Nehammer guided the fortunes of our country in a challenging time with decisiveness, foresight and a sense of responsibility. We will remember his commitment to stability and cohesion in Austria. His term of office was marked by unforeseeable crises. In these geopolitical and economic uncertainties, he has always proven that he is a chancellor who acts with a clear line and a lot of heart for all Austrians. His political backbone ultimately led him to his decision to make both of his functions available. Even though I personally very much regret this step, he deserves the greatest credit for it!”
Korosec also emphasizes Nehammer’s commitment to dialogue across generations: “He has always shown an open ear for the concerns of all citizens – from the youngest to the older generation. His commitment to solidarity and fair coexistence deserves great respect.”
A good choice for Korosec is Christian Stocker as executive chairman of the ÖVP: “He is a very experienced politician, so he is the right person at the top even in difficult times. He will ensure a good handover.” Korosec also welcomes the election of Alexander Pröll as the new Secretary General, who “brings a lot of political and crisis experience to this role.”
