Unilever awarded top marks for LGBTQI+ commitment

Unilever has been consistently committed to a more diverse and inclusive society for many years. The PRIDE Champion 2024 award with gold seal confirms the company’s commitment to the LGBTQI+ community.

For the fifth time in a row, the PRIDE Index honors companies that are particularly committed to the rights and visibility of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer employees (LGBTIQ+). The aim of the index is to map the LGBTIQ+ diversity management of employers in the categories of organizational structure, human resources, communication & visibility as well as legal framework & regulations, to show development potential and thus to make the commitment of companies in this area comparable.

Diversity is firmly anchored in the corporate strategy

According to the evaluation by a panel of experts as part of the PRIDE Champion Audit 2024, Unilever in Germany, Austria and Switzerland achieved an overall rating of around 85 percent of the possible score. With over 90 percent of the possible score in the category legal framework & regulations and Almost 90 percent of organizational structure shows that Unilever has a framework that promotes diversity and is deeply anchored in its corporate strategy. The key to this is the company-wide “Equity for Impact” strategy, which aims to reduce structural discrimination along the entire value chain and specifically strengthen marginalized groups such as the LGBTQI+ community.

Unilever also scored in the upper range in the human resources and communication categories, with around 80 percent each. Particularly noteworthy is the “proUd” employee network, which, with a rating of almost 92 percent, sends a strong signal of commitment and support – both within the workforce and from top management.

“Effective commitment goes beyond acceptance and tolerance. At Unilever, we are committed to structural changes and diversity. This includes the right framework conditions as well as the willingness of all employees to become allies of our LGBTQI+ colleagues,” emphasizes Alexandra Büßer , who works in job sharing together with Marlin Mühlhoff as Head of HR for Unilever Germany.

Marlin Mühlhoff adds: “The comprehensive inventory of our diversity management through the PRIDE Index Audit is a valuable tool for us to make strengths visible and identify potential for improvement. Clear signs like this are needed, especially in times when hatred and agitation are increasing PRIDE Index. The gold seal shows that our efforts are paying off and at the same time we now know where we can improve.”
