Innsbruck/Vienna (OTS) – The Aktionsgemeinschaft is decidedly against the proposal by Tyrolean ÖVP Labor Councilor Astrid Mair to introduce an obligation to work full-time after studying. “We are convinced that students make a significant contribution to society during their studies and should be supported in order to combine study and work in the best possible way
“, says Verena Gattinger, federal chairwoman of the Aktionsgemeinschaft.
Many students work during their studies in order to finance their living, gain valuable practical experience and prepare for the demands of the job market. They therefore actively contribute to society and the welfare state during their training period.
More support instead of constraints
Instead of obliging students to work full-time after their studies, politicians should finally create more opportunities to make it possible to work properly during their studies. Flexible working models, targeted support programs and a better compatibility of study and work are the key to supporting and promoting the skilled workers of tomorrow.

“With her statement, State Councilor Mair uses the cliché, which is no longer relevant, that students do not perform well and only cost the state money. This is not only sad, but also simply factually wrong
“, says Maximilian Veichtlbauer, club chairman of the Aktionsgemeinschaft.
“Yes, studying costs the state money, no question about it. The aim of a course of study should be to educate people and promote their interests and potential. The AktionsCommunity therefore stands for a future-oriented educational policy that respects and promotes the freedom and personal responsibility of students. Because together we have to work on solutions that meet the actual needs of students and society, without coercion or rigid guidelines
,” adds Veichtlbauer.
We therefore call on politicians, including State Councilor Mair, to align political demands with the interests of the students and are available for a constructive exchange.

As the largest student representation in Austria, the Aktionsgemeinschaft represents the interests and rights of students nationwide and has been the executive at 13 universities since the 2023 ÖH elections.
