TWSE is the first exchange to receive the ISO 14068-1 carbon neutrality certificate

The Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) today announced that it has become the first exchange in the world to receive the ISO 14068-1:2023 carbon neutrality certificate from the British Standards Institution (BSI) following a rigorous assessment and audit process. This award not only reflects TWSE’s progress in environmental protection and sustainable development, but also highlights its leadership in global sustainability initiatives.

Harold Pradal, Head of Insurance Services and Member of the Board of Directors of BSI Group, personally presented the certificate to Sherman Lin, Chairman and CEO of TWSE, during his visit to Taiwan. The BSI Group highly recognizes the efforts and achievements of TWSE in promoting sustainable development in compliance with the highest international standards.

The TWSE has a long-standing commitment to sustainability practices, continuously building sustainable resilience and improving its operational mechanisms and quality in relation to environmental, social and governance aspects. In early 2023, the TWSE responded to Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero transformation target by developing a carbon neutrality roadmap. In consultation with Ernst & Young and with reference to the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi), the TWSE set a short-term goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 37.8% from 2022 to 2030 in order to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C to limit. The final target is net zero emissions by 2050.

Between 2022 and 2040, TWSE aims to reduce emissions through energy saving measures, replacing equipment and using renewable energy. Any remaining greenhouse gas emissions will be offset through carbon credits to achieve annual carbon neutrality. From 2040 to 2050, the TWSE will continue to offset residual emissions, thereby steadfastly pursuing its goal of net zero emissions.

Aiming to become a benchmark for Taiwanese companies, TWSE plays its important role in adhering to government policies and international standards. Beyond carbon neutrality certification, TWSE leads by example and promotes the sustainable development of Taiwan’s listed companies. Together with companies, it strives to achieve the global net zero emissions target and create a prosperous and fruitful sustainable future.
