Highlights on ORF 2, ORF III and 3sat as well as on vorarlberg.ORF.at and ORF ON
Vienna (OTS) – ORF Vorarlberg accompanies Vorarlberg’s largest cultural festival comprehensively and in multimedia. The live broadcast begins on July 17th with the opening of the Bregenz Festival on ORF 2 and 3sat. On July 19th there will be an exclusive look behind the scenes on ORF 2 in the “Bregenz Festival Magazine 2024”, followed by the broadcast of the spectacular lakeside stage production of Carl Maria von Weber’s “Der Freischütz”. On July 28th, ORF 2 will broadcast the documentary “Der Freischütz – Festival Fever on Lake Constance” with exciting insights into the creation and the people behind the stage. ORF III will show the house opera “Tancredi” by Gioachino Rossini on August 25th.
Opening of the Bregenz Festival: July 17th (9:55 a.m. ORF 2 and 3sat and 7:45 p.m. ORF III “Culture Today Special” and ORF ON)
The Bregenz Festival is traditionally ceremoniously opened by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, before the first premiere of the festival summer takes place in the evening with the game on the lake. Moderator Martina Köberle from ORF Vorarlberg conducts live interviews with festival artists, Eva Teimel comments live on the festival opening. “Vorarlberg today” (7 p.m., ORF 2 V) also comes live from Bregenz on the opening day. ORF Radio Vorarlberg will be there live all day and will broadcast from the glass studio directly on the festival grounds from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. on the opening day. On the website vorarlberg.ORF.at there is a live blog, a live stream as well as the best pictures and exciting background stories from the opening.
Bregenz Festival Magazine 2024: July 19th (6.30 p.m. ORF 2 and ORF ON)
How Philipp Stölzl’s production of the popular German opera “Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria Weber is received by audiences and critics is just one of the topics in the Bregenz Festival Magazine 2024. It is also shown how the fascinating backdrop – a bizarre winter landscape – was created and this year, for the first time, stage and auditorium are merging with the help of an artificial water landscape. Presenter Martina Köberle accompanies the festival magazine.
Game on the lake: “Der Freischütz”: July 19th (9:20 p.m. ORF 2 and ORF ON)
“Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber has been one of the most popular operas in the German-speaking world since its premiere in 1821. 27 performances and 185,000 tickets sold: The “Game on the Lake” can be seen live from the largest lake stage in the world with almost 7,000 seats on ORF 2.
Documentary “Der Freischütz – Festival fever on Lake Constance”: July 28th (4:30 p.m. ORF 2 and ORF ON)
This ORF Vorarlberg production gives exciting insights behind the scenes of the elaborate opera “Der Freischütz”. The premiere was preceded by large-scale renovation work on the historic lakeside stage, and the elaborate stage design was created parallel to the renovation. Designer Nikolaus Küng accompanies director Philipp Stölzl in the intensive preparations for a fascinating production.
House opera “Tancredi”: August 25th (11:45 p.m. ORF III and ORF ON)
“Tancredi” is an early masterpiece by the young Gioachino Rossini and his first serious opera. Jan Philipp Gloger stages this gripping operatic thriller, he moves the action to today and tells the queer story of an impossible love between two women in a setting ruled by the drug mafia. The focus is on the question of how people deal with diversity in society.
Festival highlights at ORF Vorarlberg
ORF Radio Vorarlberg and the TV program “Vorarlberg today” (7 p.m., ORF 2 V) report continuously in the news and in all programs. The Bregenz Festival is presented in many different ways online at vorarlberg.ORF.at. The highlights also find an audience far beyond Vorarlberg: Radio Ö1 as well as ORF 2, ORF III and 3sat on TV as well as ORF ON offer program highlights for the Austrian and international audience.
