TV documentary from Vorarlberg: “The Paper Dancer – A Portrait of the Artist Tone Fink”

On January 6th at 6:25 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) An unheard-of world emerges in Tone Fink’s dashed, dabbed, torn and patched images. “Art is of no use, that’s why we need it,” he asserts, dancing on plate lenses, drumming on papier-mâché, and stroking animals for the ark. Tone rolls towards his audience – on a paper throne, the paper crown on his head. “Art is a kind of riot,” he quotes Picasso and invites people to the big parade with dozens of animal masks.

“Tone Fink is a universal paper artist,” wrote curator Antonia Hoerschelmann on the occasion of his major exhibition at the Albertina. His original medium is drawing, his passion is performance, his passion is cartoons, his artistry is experimentation on a solid basis of craftsmanship. And Tone Fink proved that all of this may not be universal, but at least understandable globally, with exhibitions in China, India and Japan, among others. To mark Tone Fink’s 80th birthday, ORF Vorarlberg is showing the TV documentary “The Paper Dancer” about the well-known Vorarlberg illustrator, painter, object artist and filmmaker.

“The Paper Dancer – A Portrait of the Artist Tone Fink” can be seen on January 6th at 6:25 p.m. in the series “Österreich-Bild am Urlaub” on ORF 2.
