Vienna (OTS) – Artificial intelligence (AI) is on the rise worldwide and is already being used in various areas in Vorarlberg. At the Feldkirch State Hospital, for example, AI helps with the irradiation of cancer patients, and at the Rhomberg construction company it is intended to help increase safety on construction sites. As part of the TV documentary, ORF Vorarlberg also visited the Silvretta Montafon ski area, where an eight-seater chairlift with an integrated AI system is in operation. Over the past three years, with the help of millions of training data, the program has learned to recognize dangerous situations in the exit area and to stop the train if necessary. According to the Wolfurt cable car manufacturer Doppelmayr, it is the first chairlift in the world that can be operated without staff in the mountain station. The film also sheds light on the basic functionality of AI and shows the important questions society faces in view of the rapid developments in the AI field.
The TV documentary “Silicon Vorarlberg? On the trail of artificial intelligence” can be seen in the series “Österreich-Bild am Sonntag” on February 25th at 6:25 p.m. on ORF 2.
