Vienna (OTS) – Founded in 724, the Benedictine monastery of Reichenau in Germany was an important religious, political, scientific and artistic center for centuries. In 2024, the 1,300th anniversary of the island of Reichenau in Lake Constance will be celebrated in a unique state exhibition with the most valuable exhibits. On display are golden reliquaries, irreplaceable UNESCO heritage books and portraits of islanders whose lives and rhythms still endure in the monastic-historical context. In the ORF Vorarlberg documentary, Bernhard Stadler presents lively history that dispels many clichés about the Middle Ages.
“1,300 years of the Lake Constance monastery island of Reichenau – How colorful the Middle Ages really were” can be seen on Saturday, June 8, 2024, at 4:30 p.m. in the series “On the Road with the Neighbor” on ORF 2.
