Today after 4:00 p.m. a recruit in the Türk barracks in Spittal an der Drau was shot by a guard’s pistol. He died in hospital from his injuries.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “Today’s incident in the Carinthian Türk barracks shocks us very much. The armed forces and I are deeply saddened by this tragic incident. Our thoughts are with his family and his comrades during this difficult time.”
The shot that hit the deceased military servant came from a guard’s service pistol. Both belong to the Carinthia military command and both come from the Spittal an der Drau district. A military psychologist looks after the family and affected people with a crisis intervention team in the barracks.
The investigation is being carried out by the Carinthia State Police Directorate and the circumstances of the incident are also being investigated by an accident commission from the Carinthia Military Command.
