Triathlon – the man with the plan

Piep, beep, beep! Three caught tones come from the direction of my wrist, so I lift my arm and look at my sports watch, while on this hot Sunday evening I continue jogging: “Too fast!” Instead of 7:34 minutes per kilometer, I am just on the road with 7:10. I breathe through. I just started, now I take my steps even slower, pace thrush on the former border strip between Wilhelmsruh and the Märkisches Quarter. I don’t want to do anything wrong here, I want to shine because: I have a coach now!

My metamorphosis from desk heroes to hobby triathletes has progressed-especially since I found Marcel Obersteller: 48, former top athlete, sports scientist, personal trainer and soon also alternative practitioners from Berlin, a coach with holistic approach. I have the website two weeks ago motrng.de Discovered and emailed that I want to create the triathlon in Fehmarn in Fehmarn and report on it in the »ND«. “I am happy to help you, get in touch!” He replied and in the second email he exuded so much optimism and good mood that I got warm around my heart. “It’s going to be great!” He wrote.

At the first phone call, he did not ask me about my best performance, but about my everyday life: When I have time, how much I can realistically train, which is difficult for me. “Run, that’s the worst!” I replied. “Okay!” He said. “I don’t see any problems when swimming, you can do it by bike too. Then we focus on running. It will be something! ”

Since then I have been traveling according to my own training plan, like all 20 athletes who have hired Marcel as their coach or season planner and pay between 99 and 399 euros per month, depending on the scope. Every Sunday evening Marcel invites me to the app for me: swimming on Tuesdays, cycling on Saturdays, running on Thursday and Sunday. In addition, two units as a “bonus”, of which I am at least one of which – I’m susceptible to psychotricks.

Today I only started the clock when I started running, then my program “6 km, increased softly”. Four sections of 1.5 kilometers each, the last one has to contest with 6:19 minutes per kilometer. I’m not the fastest, but there is a risk that I will take over, as Marcel told me. “With most beginners you have to reduce the pace,” says Marcel. “The head usually wants more than the body creates.” (More on that here.)

When I arrive at the Rosenthal cemetery, my watch beeps again. Training unit finished. I check the data: all sections in the given speed area. Green ticks everywhere. Marcel should be satisfied, I’m anyway.

I go to my bike and feel warm tiredness in my legs. In the past, running was fight – against the time, against the pumping lungs, against the feeling of being far too slow. Now running is training. Systematic, clever, targeted. Slowly I have a plan!
