From April 14 to May 9, 2025, the Trinational Exercise “Trias25” takes place at the Allentsteig Lower Austrian military training area. The troop march takes place in the first week of practice; During the fourth week of practice, reorganization and the return transport to the home garrisons are planned.
“Multinational exercises represent an enormous enrichment for everyone involved in getting to know the respective operational techniques. With the Allentsteig military training area, we have the necessary area for practicing robust scenarios, also in a sharp shot and an excellent infrastructure. Thanks to the investment of the past few years, we not only offer the practicing troops, but also the latest training systems,” so Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner.
Up to 950 Swiss, 150 Germans and 200 Austrian soldiers take part in the exercise. In addition to off-road vehicles, combat and combat rifle tanks as well as drones are also used. The size and infrastructure of the Allentsteig military training area make it possible to practice together with mechanized forces in this exercise structure.
The joint exercise under the already tried and tested cooperation under the DA-CH format is another highlight of the ability to expand and achieve further synergy effects of the forces used. The ability to work with armed forces of other armies in 2025 is guaranteed both in the field of logistics, by participation in the Eubg2025, as well as by the “Trias25”, in the area of a robust use. There is intensive cooperation between the countries. With Switzerland alone, there are 150 projects, regulated in 13 bilateral agreements. In April 2024, an Austrian quota took part in the international cyber exercise “Locked Shields 24” in Switzerland. Cooperation with the German Bundeswehr has been intensive for decades. Austrian troops, mainly as part of the preparation of joint international operations, always practice military military training areas. Around November and December 2024 to prepare the EuBG25 at the Bergen military training area in Lower Saxony.
