Haha, that came as a surprise: Two weeks ago, I joked here whether after the many failures in the team did not want to join the Fehmarn Group-from a readership or editorial team? And what should I say? Tada-a tusch for Hartmut Heuschkel, 64, teacher from Petershagen, regular reader and also volunteer editor in the ND editorial team!
Hartmut contacted the column on the day, we talked on the phone, and now he is too included in the tribalistas team. He feels fit enough for the Olympic distance even without months of preparation. “I let the hammock hang on the left and climb into the running shoes. Hopefully they don’t squeak with long ignorance, «he joked in his text message.
Hartmut is our team elder, he was in the ND Velothon team three times and has already completed several triathlons over the Olympic distance. On Friday afternoon, like the other tribalistas, he faces the Südstrand campsite with his motorhome. At the sunset beer (guaranteed alcohol-free!) Hopefully he will give us newcomers one or the other practical tip for the competition before cycling on Sunday morning to the start and finish line. Triathlon premiere!
Am I excited? Yes. Do I have a junk? Oh, nope. What should go wrong now? My trainer Marcel Obersteller crowded me properly: In the past four weeks I was in the water on six out of seven days of the week, on the bike or on the running track. “They weren’t a loose units that you made there,” he admits at our last phone call before the competition. “But we had to get you fit in two months!”
And what does he advise me for the day of the days? “Especially previously played through all the eventualities in the head,” says the former competitive athlete. “What if your wheel has a slab? What if you smoke, have forgotten swimming goggles or get an unjustified time penalty? Nothing can get you out of the concept! Always have an answer! ”
Trial training

ND editor Jirka Grahl tries something new, at the start of triathlon. 1500 m swimming, 43 km bike, 10 km run. On September 14th. is a competition premiere: at Fehmarn triathlon.
Two hours before the competition, I should be on site, check in my bike and prepare my change unit. Before breakfast before, porridge or rolls, as always. No experiments! At the start, I should be on the left, because I breathe to the right when I crawl. So I always have the opponents in view and swim in the right direction. Find a group quickly where the pace fits and then swim in the water shadow! You can become super fast in the suction of the others!
When cycling at least one liter of drinking and catering properly before running: Then don’t exaggerate! Five kilometers on the safe side, and then when it comes, like to put on pace again! From then on, just enjoy, says Marcel. “The following applies to you: do not think of the result, but to experience it!”
Enjoy! Experience! All right, coach! Likewise, on Sunday at 9 a.m., I will run alongside 200 others to the Baltic Sea waves: Juhuuu! Fehmarn, we are coming!
