Traffic traffic, long weekend, frequency and MotoGP provide long traffic jams

Even if the weather forecasts have so far predicted summer weather, this is not yet guaranteed. However, what we can predict from the ARBÖ is that this weekend will come too long traffic jams on Austria’s streets.
The reason for this are the end of the holiday in Bremen, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and in the south of the Netherlands, the “Frequency Festival” in Sankt Pölten, the “MotoGP” at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg and the extended weekend through the holiday on Friday.

Maria Himmelfahrt, on Friday, August 15th, 2025, brings the Austrians an extended weekend. Many will use this for a trip to the country or to the neighboring countries. Experience has shown that the ARBÖ traffic experts expect a travel wave with traffic jams from Thursday afternoon, especially around the big cities. On the following routes, road users should expect long delays until the later evening:

  • West Autobahn (A1) in the large rooms Linz, Salzburg and Vienna

  • South Autobahn (A2) around Graz and between Vienna and the Guntramsdorf node

  • Ostautobahn (A4), between knot Prater and knot Schwechat and in front of the Nickelsdorf/Hegyeshalom border

  • Mühlkreisautobahn (A7) in the urban area of Linz

  • Pyhrnautobahn (A9), near Graz and in front of the border playing field/Sentilj

  • Tauernautobahn (A10), around Salzburg and Villach

  • Donauuferautobahn (A22), between knot Kaisermühlen and Korneuburg

  • Southeast Tangent (A23), throughout the course

Likewise, you should take a traffic jam on the following streets: Altmannsdorfer Straße, Triester Straße and western exit in Vienna, Kärntner Straße and Triester Straße in Graz, Autobahngringer Graz/Ost, bypass Ebelsberg in Linz as well as Munich Bundesstraße and Sterneckstraße in Salzburg.

At the weekend, especially on Saturday, but also on Friday, it will build on the following “classics”:

  • Pyhrnautobahn (A9): In front of the tunnel chains Klaus – St. Pankraz, the Bosruck tunnel, the Kalwang – Mautern construction site area and the Gleinalmtunnel

  • Tauernautobahn (A10): In front of the St. Michael toll and the tunnel portals of the Tauern tunnel and Katschbergtunnel

  • Karawanken Autobahn (A11): In front of the Karawanken tunnel

  • Inntal Autobahn (A12): In front of the Kufstein/Kiefersfelden border and in the Innsbruck area

  • Brenner Autobahn (A13): In front of the Schönberg toll point and the construction site area in front of the Lueg Bridge

  • Fernpassstraße (B179): On the Reutte bypass and between Lermoos and Nassereith

  • Zillertalstraße (B169) with block handling in front of the board case tunnel

Zwtl: 3 days “frequency” ensures traffic jams in and around Sankt Pölten

From Wednesday, August 13, 2025, until Friday, August 15, 2025, Sankt Pölten becomes the center of the music scene in Austria again. The “Frequency Festival” takes place in the “Green Park” – and that on five stages. The line-up with, among others, Finch, Post Malone, Shawn Mendes and Will Smith will attract more than 180,000 visitors. Many of them will arrive by car. Therefore, the ARBÖ traffic experts expect traffic jams and long delays-sometimes already on arrival, but above all on departure. The Kelsengasse, Mariazeller Straße (B20) and the West Autobahn (A1) on and in front of the Sankt Pölten South and knot Sankt Pölten are particularly affected. Waiting times and viscous traffic can also be expected around the parking spaces in the eastern part of the Hesser barracks. “They are publicly traveling with the ÖBB and the Western Railway to Sankt Pölten Central Station. In addition to the regular trains, according to the schedule, according to the schedule, relief trains also use the passenger storm. From the Sankt Pölten Central Station, shuttle buses then go to the festival site and return,” says the ARBÖ information service.

ZwTL: “MotoGP” brings tens of thousands of visitors to Upper Styria

From August 15th to 17th, 2025, the MotoGP will be guest at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. In addition to the races, visitors can expect a supporting program with concerts, stunt shows and show runs. Especially on Sunday the AN and – especially – on departure, increased traffic is expected, especially on the Murtal Schnellstraße (S36), Gaberl Straße (B77) and Friesacher Straße (B317). In addition, construction sites on the S6 between Gloggnitz and Maria Schutz, Hospital am Semmering and Mürzzuschlag West as well as Niklasdorf and Leoben ensure delays. If you want to avoid waiting times, you should arrive early or switch to public transport. Free shuttles are available to the ring for rail travelers from Friday to Sunday from Knittelfeld. Car parking spaces are located in walking distance to the site, for cyclists there is a “Park & Bike” offer from the Therme Fohnsdorf, motorcyclists use the central parking lot P4. “Campers are recommended to arrive on Friday or Saturday before 9 a.m.
