Traffic -calmed inner city becomes a reality!
Vienna (OTS) –

The club guards of the red-pink progress coalition, Josef Taucher (SPÖ) and Selma Arapovic (NEOS) react to the current announcement by the new Minister of Mobility Peter Hanke to send a change in the road traffic regulations. In this way, it enables cities and municipalities by means of automated access management, as has long been common and successful in many European cities. Like many other cities in Austria, the city of Vienna has pushed for a corresponding StVO amendment for years:

“For flimsy reasons, the Green Ex-Transport Minister Leonore Gewessler prevented a corresponding change in the law for years. The City of Vienna has also presented a technical feasibility study that calculates that around 15,700 entry into the 1st district could be prevented per day,” said SPÖ club chairman Josef Taucher. The parking space utilization would also be able to be reduced by almost a quarter and space for greening, seating and cycle paths would also be created. “As a progress coalition, we have been calling for a traffic-calmed inner city since we take up government-with the amendment to the road traffic regulations, the legal framework for this is finally created,” says Neos-Vienna club chairman Selma Arapovic. “This clears the way to implement Austria’s largest traffic calming project – a project that will bring more space for people and more quality of life in the heart of the city. For five years, the green excuses have delivered, debates were deported and progress prevents progress now, which has long been long overdue.”
