Vienna (OTS) – Christoph Feurstein presents “Thema” on Monday, July 15, 2024, at 9:05 p.m. on ORF 2 and on ORF ON with the following contributions:
Gray divorce: late separation, new happiness
“I got divorced at the age of 51 because I thought to myself, that can’t be life.” Michaela Ott-Petersell belongs to the group of people who get divorced in their fifties after more than 20 years of marriage. The number of so-called “gray divorces” has quadrupled in the past few decades. But many people don’t want to stay alone afterwards. At the singles meeting in the Panoramabar in Vienna Favoriten, lonely hearts meet to dance. “More than 900 singles have found a partner with me,” says Linda Weger-Rollwagen, who has been organizing dance evenings for 26 years. Susanne Kainberger mingled with the older students and learned that the search for true love has no age limit.
Woman disappeared without a trace with 35 dogs
“At first she asked if she could keep two or three dogs,” says Barbara G., the landlady of a house in Wiederfeld in the Waldviertel. “In the end she had 35 animals that barked for hours and wreaked havoc on everything. There is dog feces lying around in the house and rent debts have piled up,” says the shocked homeowner. Now Sabine L. and her animals have disappeared without a trace. She has been known to the authorities for years. The German woman told “Thema” on the phone that she looks after old dogs and feels that she is being unfairly persecuted by the authorities. A report by Sonja Hochecker and Markus Waibel.
Endometriosis – pain is not the norm
“It feels like stabbings. The pain is so severe that it takes my breath away,” is how Eva-Maria Krajnc describes her monthly pain. The 31-year-old Carinthian suffers from endometriosis, chronic growths in the abdominal cavity. It takes eight years with many visits to the doctor before the psychologist receives this diagnosis. To date, endometriosis has been little researched, although almost one in ten women is affected by it. Rafaela Vostatek from Vienna was diagnosed with the disease after trying unsuccessfully to become pregnant for six months. An operation will make it clear how far the endometriosis has already progressed. “Everything had grown together and shrunk together. I had a seven centimeter cyst on my ovary,” says the 29-year-old. Antonia Pawel visited the two women for “Thema” and asked about treatment options at a fertility center.
25 million: Who gets Engelhorn’s inheritance?
“Now that the council is over, a certain burden has been lifted from our shoulders,” says Benedict Gärtner. The 24-year-old was one of 50 who were allowed to help decide what should happen to Marlene Engelhorn’s inheritance in the “Good Council for Redistribution”. He spent six weekends discussing inequality and developing ideas for wealth redistribution. The 25 million euros were distributed among 77 non-profit organizations. Pia Bichara spoke to Marlene Engelhorn and council members about the decisions for “Thema” and visited organizations that each received different amounts of money.
