“Topic”: Abuse of a 12-year-old – now the mother speaks

On March 18th at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Christoph Feurstein will present the following contributions in “Thema” on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2:

Abuse of 12-year-old – now the mother speaks

“I still can’t fully realize what happened. It feels like the wrong film,” says the mother of the young Viennese woman who is said to have been abused by a group of boys for months last year at the age of twelve. The girl told the authorities that there were 20 to 30 in total. In a hotel room, 13 young people are said to have sexually assaulted her on a single day. “I explained it to her, talked to her about boundaries and still it happened,” said the girl’s mother in the “Theme” interview with Christoph Feurstein. The accused were between 13 and 18 years old at the time of the crime. All of them have a migration background, and some of them are also being investigated for other crimes. “We now have to rebuild our lives,” says the mother of the now 13-year-old. Christoph Feurstein and Eva Kordesch report.

Difficult lateral entry – teachers wanted

“I enjoyed being in the class, but there were so many social problems there that I decided to stop teaching,” explains Daria Dachs. As a career changer, she taught at a hotspot school in Hallein for two years. Many people feel the same way as you. First, the highly qualified academics go through a comprehensive program, only to then realize that there is a lack of prospects for them as teachers in practice. The education system is still more geared towards traditional teaching than towards people who are looking for an alternative approach to this profession, reports Markus Waibel.

Long Covid – how are those affected doing today?

“I can almost no longer imagine how bad it was back then,” says Klaus Einzinger from Kirchdorf an der Krems. Two years ago, the now 40-year-old data analyst was sitting in a wheelchair because his symptoms from Long Covid were so severe. Clara-Marie Mikulka often had a pulse of 180 when she got up. She was 17 at the time. Today she can do sports again and is training to become a physiotherapist. 200 different symptoms are assigned to Long Covid; there is no uniform therapy. A new drug is currently being tested at the Favoriten Clinic in Vienna. Eva Kordesch researched and visited those affected again.

Disappeared town signs

Stinatz, Fucking, Unterstinkenbrunn: What unites these places? That their place-name signs have been stolen at least once or even several times. “We can only guess why this keeps happening here,” says Andreas Grandits, mayor of Stinatz, pointing to the reputation of the Burgenland community. But it is usually place names with bizarre names such as Hasendorf, Weibern or Fleischessen that fall victim to theft. The Upper Austrian Fucking even had to change its name to Fugging in order to finally find peace. Oliver Rubenthaler traveled through Austria for “Thema”.
