“Topic” about violence against women – are the offers of help sufficient?

On March 4th at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Christoph Feurstein will present “Theme” on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2 with the following contributions:

Violence against women – are the offers of help sufficient?

A twelve-year-old is said to have been sexually abused by up to 17 young people in Vienna over a long period of time. Some of the accused are still underage themselves. A 27-year-old Afghan asylum seeker kills three women in a brothel in Vienna on February 23rd. On the same day, a 56-year-old Austrian murdered his wife and 13-year-old daughter. On February 26th, a 93-year-old shot his 84-year-old partner. Seven women died this year because men decided to take their lives. “I am angry and incredibly affected that we have once again failed to protect women,” says Andrea Brem, the head of the Vienna women’s shelters. She has been campaigning for women affected by physical, sexual and psychological violence for 42 years. In countless “topic” interviews, she has explained the mechanisms of violence, called for measures to better protect women and tirelessly emphasized that equality is the first step against violence. The 60-year-old will retire at the beginning of April. What has changed in dealing with the issue of violence against women, where are we today and what still needs to be done? Together with Christoph Feurstein, Andrea Brem looks back and into the future.

Sharon Stone in an exclusive interview – her life after the stroke

In 2001, Hollywood actress Sharon Stone suffered a stroke that was only recognized as such nine days after she was admitted to the hospital. Her chance of survival was one percent. For a long time she could neither speak, read nor move properly and most of her memory had disappeared. She had to learn everything again. During the pandemic, the now 65-year-old began painting, something she had never had time for during her film career. She is now celebrated for her pictures not only in the USA, but also internationally. There is no longer any room for negativism in the life of the fighter for women’s rights. Alexander W. Rauscher met Sharon Stone in Beverly Hills for an exclusive “Theme” interview about her “second life”.

Women in men’s jobs

“Better put on make-up and do what other real women do,” is what 29-year-old automotive technician Michelle Hinterkörner often hears. But she prefers to get her hands dirty with motor oil in a car repair shop in Linz. As a woman, she still belongs to a minority, as 96 percent of people who complete such an apprenticeship are men. Why is it that women are still a rarity in men’s jobs? Is it because of the rigid structures, the lack of female role models, or are women still given less credit than men? “Thema” also interviewed a young civil engineer and women in the armed forces about their experiences.
