The balance sheet from FFG and the state of Salzburg is good: in 2023, more funding for research and development in companies than ever before flowed to Salzburg.
Salzburg (OTS) – „We see from studies that research-based companies have higher sales and employment growth as well as more optimistic investment behavior and are also more resilient to crises
“, says Salzburg’s deputy mayor Stefan Schnöll about the importance of research in the state. Salzburg has developed very positively in terms of research and development in recent years, partly due to the good cooperation between the state of Salzburg and the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG ).
Salzburg was able to receive 45.4 million euros in FFG funding from federal funds for research in 2023 – more than ever before. “This means that Salzburg has achieved an absolute leap in innovation in 2023: compared to the previous year, the amount of research funding is almost three times higher. In 2021 and 2022 that was 20 and 16 million euros, respectively
“, reports Henrietta Egerth-Stadlhuber, managing director of the FFG. A large part of this goes directly to supporting projects in Salzburg companies. The state of Salzburg has been cooperating with the FFG in the area of corporate research funding for 15 years and is also contributing an additional amount. Egerth-Stadlhuber explains that “Salzburg is also one of the federal states where the proportion of research in companies is particularly high. A clear research strategy on the part of the state with a focus on topics, very well-functioning advice and service for companies through Innovation Salzburg and the attractive research funding initiative of the state of Salzburg with the FFG are success factors that have a clear impact.
“
The state of Salzburg relies on successful cooperation with the FFG
Since the start of this successful research funding cooperation between the state and the FFG in autumn 2008, 289 research and development projects have been supported by Salzburg companies with a total of more than 127 million euros. Of this, over 52 million euros are non-repayable grants and over 75 million euros are loans – both funding components are financed jointly by the FFG and the state of Salzburg. Overall, this triggered an investment volume of around 202 million euros for the supported companies and thus as investments in Salzburg. “The funding campaign has now been extended by 2 years and further developed, and the state is also increasing the loan options for Salzburg companies
“, explains Astrid Mayr, Head of Economic and Research Promotion at the State of Salzburg.
This is how companies get funding
The experts from Innovation Salzburg advise and support Salzburg companies with these and other research funding. “In 2023, we will again support over 600 Salzburg companies with their research and innovation projects free of charge and independently. The transformation of the economy through climate protection, CO2 savings and digitalization is clearly visible and there is also particular investment in R&D
“, says Walter Haas, Managing Director of Innovation Salzburg.
