Doha, Qatar (ots/PRNewswire) – Conference highlights various perspectives from important thought leaders, innovators and young changemakers on the topic of AI in education
The world is at a turning point for human evolution. Machines will profoundly change the way we live and work, and even our self-image as humans, explained Nina Schick, one of the first experts in generative AI and founder of Tamang Ventures Limited, at WISE 11 – the 11th edition of WISE Summit of the Qatar Foundation, which ended today.
Noting the exponential rate at which the capabilities of AI systems are evolving, Schick emphasized: “In this new age of intelligence – a revolution – a symbiotic working relationship between machines and humans will become the norm.”
In his talk titled “Critical Thinking in the Digital Age: AI, Information Literacy, and the Battle Against Disinformation,” Dr. Marc Owen Jones, Associate Professor , Middle Eastern Studies Department at Hamad Bin Khalifa University, addressed the challenges facing education systems in detecting and countering misinformation and offered advice on how to combat AI-generated propaganda.
The AI for Common Good panel explored the collective impact of AI applications in research, education, policy, philanthropy and media on training the next generation of leaders and problem solvers. Your Excellency Buthaina bint Ali Al Jabr Al Nuaimi, Minister of Education and Higher Education, spoke about Qatar’s ongoing efforts and future plans to integrate AI into the education sector.
The Minister commented: “Qatar is among the pioneers in introducing a national AI curriculum for K-12. The country aims to prepare students for a world of work that increasingly requires AI technologies and skills.”
Conrad Wolfram, co-founder and CEO of the Wolfram Group, gave a talk during the closing ceremony on the critical role of computational thinking in the age of AI. He explored how the study of mathematics and computation relates to the promotion of critical thinking and creativity, and called for a shift in focus to the use of computation tools in education systems to address real-world challenges.
The two-day conference brought together nearly 7,000 stakeholders from the education sector, prominent innovation and technology experts, and young pioneers to discuss the safe, ethical and effective introduction of AI into education systems around the globe.
