The Archive of the Wiener Wiesenthal Institute for Holocaust Studies (VWI) offers researchers in Austria For the first time access on the Interviewsammlung „Final Account: Third Reich Testimonies“. In it, around 300 people report on their everyday life and their participation in National Socialism, Holocaust and the Second World War. On May 12th at 3 p.m., the VWI and the University of Berlin, University College London and the Wiener Holocaust Library, London, for an online presentation of the collection. The historian Stefanie Rauch (Wiener Holocaust Library) as well as the cultural historian Zoltán Kékesi (University College London, UCL) will report on the origin and content of the collection. Robert De Blauwe and Emeline Seignobos (Both Institut National de L’Audiovisuel, Ina) reports on the role of the INA in the creation of the collection. In addition, the new access options in Berlin and Vienna will be informed. The director of the VWI leads through the online event, Jochen Böhler.
The “Final Account: Third Reich Testimonies” collection is a significant document for science. Between 2008 and 2017 it was carried out by the British documentary filmmaker Luke Holland Creates and comprises 295 filmed life -historical interviews. Holland mainly interviewed Germans and Austrians: inside who take a number of positions in a wide range of complicity.
Since 2022, the collection on the UCL and the Wiener Holocaust Library in London and at the Institut National de L’Audiovisuel in France can be viewed – now, with the entrances to the Free University of Berlin and at the VWI, also for the first time in Germany and Austria.
