Strasbourg (ots) – Violence between Israelis and Palestinians has been going on for decades and has now reached unprecedented levels. The attack on Israel by the terrorist militia Hamas hit the country at a difficult time: Israeli society has never been more divided than in the phase before the attack on October 7th. ARTE will analyze the background to the Middle East conflict on a themed evening on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 from 8:15 p.m.
The documentary airs on Tuesday, December 12th “Israel’s Battle of the Tribes” on primetime the question of why the country is so socially torn. The documentary will illuminate at 9:45 p.m “The Battle for Jerusalem” the political and religious background of the fight for the Holy City, which is at the center of the Middle East conflict with around a million Israeli and Palestinian residents, and places current events in historical perspective. Since October 7th, Hezbollah has also been fighting with its neighbor Israel in southern Lebanon. The documentation “Lebanon – A country held hostage” at 11:05 p.m. shows how Hezbollah has cleverly expanded its power in recent years and is now a state within a state. The theme evening at 10.45 p.m. will be complemented by a ARTE Report about the work of reporter and cameraman Mohammed Alaloul at 10:45 p.m., which concludes another episode of the magazine Tracks Eastin which cultural workers and activists talk about how they experienced the terrorist attack and how they can carry on despite fear and uncertainty.
