Shanghai (ots/PRNewswire) The first nuclear power plant equipped with Gen IV nuclear power technology has become operational after a successful test run of 168 hours, during which all systems were found to perform the desired functions. They hold high potential for commercial application and are viewed as an alternative to fossil energy sources.

The Shidaowan HTR-PM demonstration project was launched in 2006 and construction began in 2012. It is one of the 16 major national science and technology projects, including lunar exploration or the development of the BeiDou navigation satellite system.

Shanghai Electric is one of the key parties involved in the project.
