This is how the interim solution for the Vienna-Brigittenau trauma center is created

Vienna (OTS) Following on from our update from March 21st on the temporary relocation of services at the Vienna-Brigittenau Trauma Center, today we would like to give a brief overview of the path in the coming months.

As reported, the current priority at the location is on structurally upgrading the outpatient area in order to continue to offer an initial examination outpatient clinic for self-arriving patients. In addition, the removal of the areas affected by fire protection deficiencies is in full swing. This affects the operating room and bed wing from the 1st floor. Not only are these areas gradually no longer occupied by patients, but flammable items such as paper and a large proportion of the beds also have to be removed. This is a major logistical challenge in such a short time, which also ties up a significant part of the administrative resources.

At the same time, we are working intensively on the interim solution, which is scheduled to resume operations at the Brigittenau site from the beginning of 2025.

We can understand the desire of the colleagues at the Brigittenau site for construction and commissioning to take place more quickly. But even a container or modular building must above all be constructed safely and legally correctly. This applies to high-quality detailed planning, a fair procurement process under European law, construction work, sustainable safety planning or official coordination, to name just a few points.

What needs to be done on the way to the interim solution Trauma Center Vienna-Brigittenau / Lorenz Böhler?

Below we will explain this to you using a greatly simplified roadmap for the preferred solution, implementation at the Brigittenau/Lorenz Böhler location:

1. Evaluation of the areas in the existing buildingwhich can be put back into operation at the beginning of 2025 after being upgraded, including ongoing coordination with the authorities

2. Definition of those areaswhich must be built as an alternative solution in container or modular construction by the beginning of 2025

3. Creation of a spatial and functional program:
What rooms are there, what purpose do they serve, how big are they; This results in, among other things, the gross floor area

4. Creation of a business organization concept:
How does the operational organization of the interim solution work, what components are there, which patients are treated where and how or by whom

5. Creation of a detailed spatial concept:
Here, each room is planned in detail – what function does it fulfill for which patients, how many people can it accommodate, room height, placement of doors and windows, definition of the floor covering, electricity and other connections, furniture in detail, etc.

6. Coordination with usersi.e. usually those who subsequently work in the premises

7. Initiation of the regulatory approval process

8. Procurement procedure in accordance with the Federal Procurement Act

9. Planning work:
– Draft
– Submission
– Preliminary discussion on health law
– Execution and assembly planning

10. Site preparation:
– Demolition of the parking garage
– Creation of infrastructure: electricity, water, sewage
– Preparation of the foundation

11. Prefabrication of the areas to be manufactured using container or modular construction

12. Assembly of the areas to be manufactured in container or modular construction

13. Development of new areas (possibly bridge to existing building)

14. Facility

15. Commissioning

16. Sanitary approval

17. Trial operation

18. Full operation

From today’s perspective, commissioning at the beginning of 2025 is feasible, but still challenging. We can assure you that all employees involved in the interim solution are working almost around the clock to bring the Brigittenau team back together as quickly as possible.
