OTS in easy language – December 3rd is International Day for People with Disabilities
Vienna (OTS) – People with disabilities should live their lives independently and be able to actively participate in decision-making. The Vienna Social Fund (FSW) supports offers and services for approximately 15,070 people with disabilities in Vienna.
The goals are: to support people with disabilities and to enable equal participation in society.
The FSW works on these goals together with 80 partner organizations.
Susanne Winkler, the managing director of the FSW, says: “The FSW and its partner organizations are always working to improve services for people with disabilities. All people should have equal opportunities and the opportunity to have a say.”
The FSW Customer Council: Talking to each other instead of talking about each other
All people should have the same rights and be able to express their opinions.
The FSW wants to know what is important to people.
He has created his own offer for this purpose: the FSW Customer Council.
The FSW Customer Council was elected for the first time in 2020.
The FSW Customer Council consists of 14 people. They are all customers of FSW.
The Customer Council advises the employees of the Vienna Social Fund.
For example, which services are going well or what could be improved.
They also develop new services together.
How can we prevent violence? An important topic
People with disabilities often experience violence.
More often than people without disabilities.
People with disabilities should know where they can get help.
Susanne Gabrle is head of the FSW for services for people with disabilities and says: “Preventing violence in all forms is very important to the FSW. We therefore support the “Sonnenklar Agency – Peer Dispute Resolution Hub”.
The agency helps people with disabilities in cases of violence and arguments.”
Peer dispute mediators work at the Sonnenklar agency. These are people with disabilities who can help other people with disabilities in disputes. You can learn a lot about the topic of violence at the Sonnenklar agency. Also what we can do together against violence. 1,900 people have already visited Sonnenklar to learn something about the topic.
They wrote a handbook based on their experiences from their work.
The manual is called “Looking together. How can we prevent violence through rules?”.
The handbook gives customers and employees ideas and solutions for a good life together.

Inclusive Vienna 2030 – A city for everyone
The “Inclusive Vienna 2030” project is a strategy program of the Vienna Social Fund (FSW).
Strategy means a plan with goals to be achieved. The plan also states how these goals are to be achieved. Inclusive Vienna 2030 addresses the question: How do we want to live together in our city?
The goal is to make the city’s offerings even more inclusive.
The FSW would like to better implement the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities.
The FSW will present the strategy for the city of Vienna next year.
The measures in the strategy are to be implemented by 2030.
There are 12 subject areas.

FSW services for people with disabilities
The FSW supports organizations and projects for people with disabilities.
These organizations and projects help people with disabilities to lead self-determined lives.
The FSW supports people with disabilities in these areas:
- Reside
- Care
- Work
- Mobility/accessibility
- Leisure time
15,070 people with disabilities used FSW services in 2022.
The FSW spent 364 million euros on this in 2022.
