The retiring Prim. Dr. Klaus Katzensteiner follows Dr. Georg Mattiassich as medical director of the AUVA-UKH Linz. With him, a committed and experienced trauma surgery expert will continue to provide high quality medical and therapeutic services for Upper Austria’s patients and develop new things from tried and tested.
After more than a decade at the helm of AUVA-UKH Linz, the medical director, Prim. Dr. Klaus Katzensteiner, into his well-deserved retirement. His work was characterized by outstanding medical innovations, tireless commitment and a clear vision for the future of trauma surgery. Particularly noteworthy under his leadership is his participation in the German Trauma Register, which enabled international comparisons with other trauma centers.
The modernization of the shock room area was important – by renewing the sliding gantry technology, the diagnosis time for seriously injured patients could be halved compared to international standards. The establishment of a “wet lab”, which has created ideal conditions for training and simulating complex operations, is also one of the achievements under the leadership of Dr. Katzensteiner could be established at the AUVA-UKH Linz. He steered the accident hospital through the particularly challenging years of the Covid-19 pandemic and was able to make operations even more efficient by introducing a new hospital information system.
