At a time when the public discourse becomes increasingly polarized and conflicting, the Munich organizer Joint Adventure in cooperation with the cultural department of the state capital Munich again invites you to the Tanzwerkstatt Europe-a meeting place for all those who are looking for an artistic and creative exchange through the contemporary dance and the performance art and deal with questions of their lives and social want. Since 1991, the 11-day event has brought professional dance, amateur dancers: inside and dance fans from all over the world in the state capital. Seven current dance productions, the open stage for promising young choreographers: Inside, workshops for all levels and exciting discourse events, Munich transform Munich from August 5th to 15th into a hotspot for contemporary dance.
Performances
At the opening of the Europe dance workshop in the Muffathalle, Joint Adventures shows “VOID” (5th+August 6th) – One of the most rousing work that Wim Vandekeybus with his company Ultima Vez has brought on stage in recent years. The Belgian choreographer, who has been considered one of the most radical voices in the contemporary dance since the late 1980s, deals with the outsiders of our society. His physically intensive, tense choreography for jazz fragments and spherical sound design invites you to immerse yourself in the complex inner life of these figures.
The Swedish choreographer is the audience of the Europe dance workshop Jefta van Dinther No stranger. After his successful performance at the International Dance Festival Munich in May 2025, he was back with current stage production. “REMACHINE” (8th+9th August) researches the fragile interplay of man with his hyper-mechanized environment and lets the audience: inside a meditation about discipline, restlessness and the power of the mind over the body. Together with the composer Anna von Hausswolff, who combines the monumental sound with modern, dark sound experiments, van Dinther creates a captivating stage experience.
Also the now internationally sought -after Munich choreographer Moritz Ostruschnjak belongs to long -standing companions from Joint Adventures. In “NON + ULTRAS” (August 13th and 14th) he traces the connections of fanatic fantum and political protest forms. With the work principles Pick & Mix, Cut & Paste, he creates a whirlpool of levels of meaning from dance, video and music. In between, a society appears that results in the power of the pictures and disintegrates into polarization.
The artist: Inner duo Aurora baUncy & pere jou is devoted to research into the human voice in his work. In “A BEGINNING #16161D” (7th August) They challenge our perception in an unusual way when the voices of the performers become visible: their bodies remain hidden. A poetic story about the individual and collective, movement and voice, darkness and light.
Ian Kaler thinks in “And for the time being” (August 12) About growth, artistic practices, contexts and friend: Domestyle after. Kaler chose a horse as a scene partner and fictional alter ego, which also in the dream-like, autobiographical-fictional Video-Installation “SENTIENT BEINGS” reappeared. The audience can visit the audience before and after the dance performance with free admission.
Magdalena Reiters “Quartet” (August 11) is a poetic choreography about the visible and invisible architectures of human relationships. Two live cameras make the performance into a cinematographic experience – they not only document the stage events, but also enlarge, raise, distort and catch what the viewers’ eyes would remain hidden inside.
With Hannah Schillinger Now, for the first time, a former participant in the Open Stage is bringing a full -length piece at the Europe dance workshop for the premiere. “field work” (6th+7th August) explores the connections between agricultural work and performative practice. With a queer feminist view of Alpine culture and folklore, the choreographer breaks with traditional pictures, questions role clichés and invites you to rethink cultural heritage.
Also the popular OPEN STAGE (August 10) In the heavy rider, the program is back on the program. It offers the audience the opportunity to discover in addition to established artists: Discovering promising international newcomers: inside. At the Final Lecture (August 15th) The workshop participants give: Inside together with their lecturer: Lively insights into the creative work of the past 11 days. Everyone is warm to watch with free admission and celebrate until late at night when the Europe dance workshop comes to an end with a live DJ set in the Muffatcafé.
