Vienna (OTS) – The Ö1 Culture Picnic during the Carinthian Summer will take place on Sunday, July 7, 2024 in and around Ossiach Abbey. The event starts at 12 p.m. and entry is free. Music and literature, pop-up concerts, breakdancing, children’s programs and guided tours are offered. Ö1 broadcasts in several live broadcasts. On Saturday, July 6th, on the occasion of the opening of the Carinthian Summer, the “Ö1 Klassik-Treffpunkt” and the opening concert played by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna can be heard live from the Congress Center Villach on Ö1. On Saturday, July 6th, the “Ö1 Klassik-Treffpunkt” (10:05 a.m.) will take place live in the Congress Center Villach. On the occasion of the opening of the Carinthian Summer, Ulla Pilz will host artistic director Nadja Kayali and the American pianist Claire Huangci, who will take on the solo part in 16-year-old Clara Schumann’s piano concerto at the festival’s opening concert in the evening. From 7.30 p.m., Ö1 will broadcast the opening concert live from the Congress Center Villach, played by the ORF Radio Symphony Orchestra Vienna as the new festival orchestra of the Carinthian Summer. Under the direction of the Portuguese conductor Joana Carneiro, the program includes works by Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel, Clara Schumann and Louise Farrenc, three masters of Romanticism, as well as the premiere of the work “Azinheira” by Hannah Eisendle.
To mark the opening of the Carinthian Summer, Ö1 will be hosting a cultural picnic at Ossiach Abbey on Sunday, July 7th and will broadcast live from “Ö1 Küchenradio” (1:10 p.m.), “Ex libris” (4:00 p.m.) and from the “Ö1 Musikbühne” from May 3rd to 4 p.m. and from 5:05 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Ö1 live from the Ö1 KulturPicknick
There is a premiere in Ossiach: The “Ö1 Küchenradio” (1:10 p.m.) with Gerhard Hafner takes place live in front of an audience for the first time. Nadja Kayali, director of the Carinthian Summer, Ö1 program director Silvia Lahner and Marion Rothschopf-Herzog from the Carinthian Music Academy Stift Ossiach serve light summer fare. The trio Diatonic Expeditions spices things up musically: Theresa Lehner (dulcimer, harp, vocals), Katharina Baschinger (Styrian harmonica) and Alexander Maurer (Styrian harmonica, clarinets). Anna Baar and Maja Haderlap are guests in “Ex libris,” which will be broadcast live from 4 p.m. Both writers grew up bilingual and have roots in Carinthia. The conversation with Peter Zimmermann is about origins, language and the path to writing, about influences, likes and dislikes. The actress Petra Morzé reads excerpts from their texts.
The program on the “Ö1 Musikbühne” begins at 12.30 p.m., with Lara Kusztrich and Mitra Kotte, Martin Listabarth and the RaSumOvsky Ensemble & Johannes Pflegerl playing. Ö1 will broadcast live from 3:05 p.m. the concert by Vienna Philharmonic Lara Kusztrich (violin) and pianist Mitra Kotte, who will perform Maurice Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2 as well as a paraphrase of the aria “Largo al factotum” from Rossini’s “Il barbiere di Siviglia”. play. Then you can hear the young Austrian musician Martin Listabarth, who impresses with his versatility as a jazz pianist, composer and improviser. From 5:05 p.m. there will be “Spielräume Spezial” live from Ossiach: “Pop with Riss” is what the Klagenfurt-born singer, composer, performer and musician Anna Anderluh calls her music between minimalism and experimental cunning, between tender poetry and harsh social criticism. Powerful, breathy songs between indie, pop and folk, as well as profound, personal lyrics – this is how the internationally acclaimed singer OSKA and her band create an almost magical atmosphere.
Pop-up concerts, breakdancing, children’s opera and much more
Pop-up concerts by the Company of Music, the Diatonic Expeditions, the Ossiacher See Trombone Choir and others will take place in and around Ossiach Abbey from 12 p.m. In the collegiate church of Ossiach, Bertl Mutter explores the church interior with his trombone from 12 p.m., Wolfgang Kogert introduces the organs of the collegiate church and the soprano Maria Ladurner interprets songs by Nadia Boulanger and Gabriel Fauré. In addition to guided tours of the monastery, there is a reading with Petra Morzé (12:00 p.m.), artistic interventions to promote health (from 12:30 p.m.), and the performance of Peter Turrini’s “The Landlady” (based on Carlo Goldoni) directed by Angelica Ladurner (2.15 p.m.) and graffiti and breakdancing to join in (from 1 p.m., Fast Ossiach tool hall).
The afternoon is accompanied by a colorful children’s program. From 12 p.m., painting workshops, a performance of the children’s opera “Gold!” to participate in, a percussion workshop, face painting, hands-on concerts and the play “Colombina and Arlecchino” can be experienced in the baroque hall and the didactics room.
The Ö1 KulturPicknick will take place regardless of the weather on Sunday, July 7th in and around Ossiach Abbey from 12 p.m. Admission is free.
