The Northern European data center operator Delska has received the renowned animal III design certification of the Uptime Institute for its future “EU North Riga LV DC1” system-an important milestone before the planned commissioning at the end of this year. As soon as it is in operation, it will be one of the most environmentally friendly data centers in the Baltic Sea area.
Tier-III design certification ensures that the system meets strict standards for redundancy, security and uninterrupted operation, and guarantees an operation time of 99.982 %. “In a world in which a few seconds of downtime can cost, Tier III means that our infrastructure remains online – even during planned maintenance work,” said Andris Gailitis, Managing Director of Delska.
The 10 MW location with an output of up to 250 kW per rack is designed for next generation workloads, including AI and high-performance computing (HPC), and is intended to fix the energy shortage in the large European nodes. The modular 6000 m² layout is fully scalable and offers the option of expanding the data center campus to up to 30 MW.
Sustainability is the focus of the draft. The system is operated 100 % with wind energy, whereby the emergency generators are operated by Neste My with renewable diesel. In order to achieve a PUE value of only 1.3, advanced free cooling systems, a warm-speed house, an effective white-technology wall cooling system and chilling machines based on trane are used. It supports both air cooling and high-density direct to chip cooling. Delska also strives for a LEED certification for green building that have received fewer than 15 buildings in Latvia.
After completion, LV DC1 will receive the certification as an animal III system to confirm that construction and operation meet the same high standard as planning. This will be the third animal-III-certified data center of Delska and the sixth overall, to which two locations certified as an animal-III system are added in Lithuania. Another Lithuanian data center and another facility in the region are planned to strengthen the network of Delska’s Baltic data centers.
Information about Delska
Delska is one of the largest operators of data centers in the Baltic States and has more than 26 years of experience in the IT and network infrastructure. Delska operates completely environmentally friendly animal-III and PCI DSS-certified systems in Riga and Vilnius with a capacity of 19 MW and also maintains branches in Frankfurt, Amsterdam and Stockholm. The portfolio includes cloud, server rental, network, security and managed services.
Since the takeover by the Quaero European Infrastructure Fund II in 2020, Delska has significantly expanded its infrastructure and improved energy efficiency. In 2024, Deac (Latvia) and DLC (Lithuania) merged under the new Delska brand and this year Rackray (Lithuania) joined the group of companies.
