“The Million Dollar Show” on ORF – a success story
“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” was created by the production company Celador and was first broadcast in Great Britain in 1998. The ORF launched the first six episodes of the international quiz format on January 24, 2000 under the title “Everything is possible – The 10 Million Show” with Rainhard Fendrich. On May 29, 2000, Barbara Stöckl took over the moderation of the quiz show, which was also given the new show name “The Million Show”. At that time, Stöckl was the only woman in the world to present the successful format. In 105 episodes, their candidates tried to answer the tricky questions and make big money. Since September 9, 2002, Armin Assinger has presented more than 1,000 editions of the “Millionaire Show” (including special editions). Over the course of almost two and a half decades, around 35,000 questions have been asked. A total of around 8,700 candidates took part in the selection rounds and around 2,900 left the studio with a win.
