Over 33,000 militia soldiers are available in Austria to reinforce the adhesion of the federal army at any time at home and abroad. Anyone who has already performed their basic military or training service can voluntarily take on tasks in addition to the profession. Exercises usually take place every two years for one to two weeks. In the event of a threat or disaster, for example with a nationwide blackout, the reaction militia is ready for use within 72 hours.

What is the reaction militia?
The reaction militia is a rapidly available operational reserve of the Austrian Armed Forces, which is ready for use within 72 hours. Entry and training:
The militia offers a variety of options – from batches to non -commissioned officers to officers or experts. The path begins with the voluntary report for exercises or training service. Training as a militia sub -officer takes place in three sections for around 18 months, partly possible together with professional soldiers and also modular. Milic officers are trained at the Theresian military academy. Special functions are also open to civilian experts – including doctors, veterinarians and psychologists.
Benefits and salary:
Militia soldiers bring their civilian expertise and at the same time benefit from military skills such as resilience and quick reaction. In addition to income tax -free starting payments of 1,413.37 euros net in the training service, there are financial incentives: 506.70 euros for the voluntary report on militia exercises; 253.35 euros in addition to militia training and 3,830 euros per month for three months of security police assistance deployment directly according to the basic military service. From the 13th month of training, the monthly reference for prospective professional non -commissioned officers and officers is EUR 3,027.10 plus special payments. Free meals, accommodation, ÖBB free trips and other services complete the package.
