The City of Vienna operations team, led by the Immediate Measures group, carries out checks on Christmas markets, street artists and Mozart sellers as part of a comprehensive campaign in the run-up to Christmas. A focus is also on preventing pickpocketing. The presence of the emergency services definitely has a deterrent effect here.
The actions are carried out in close cooperation with the LPD Vienna and the responsible specialist departments in the city.
The following violations were identified during the checks so far:

Through the cooperation of the city departments, 35 reports have been filed to date, including violations of road traffic regulations, unauthorized business practices and the opening hours law.
In eleven cases, goods that had been offered for sale without authorization had to be confiscated.
In addition, various administrative violations in public spaces were punished. This mostly affected the area of street art.

The Vienna police filed several mandates and a complaint, including for violations of the street art regulations.
“Vienna is one of the safest cities in the world – and that is no coincidence. Behind this lies the commitment of the Vienna police and our employees, who ensure that this high standard is maintained every day. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the Viennese Christmas markets become atmospheric places of joy and togetherness, where both the people of Vienna and our guests can enjoy the Christmas season to the fullest and without worries,” said Mayor Dr. Michael Ludwig.
Walter Hillerer, head of the immediate measures group, is also satisfied with the progress of the focus campaign so far and announces that the controls will continue: “The Christmas season is a peaceful and contemplative time for many, but unfortunately not everyone follows the rules. Our focus campaign aims to ensure order and maximum safety for everyone, even in this special time.”
