A special focus of the redesign was on greening and the renewal of the floor covering in order to counteract the heat of summer: a total of 230 m2 could be sealed and greened. A total of 129 m2 of grass and perennial beds were built as an eye-catcher. These not only visually enhance the green area, but also offer valuable habitat as well as food for insects and birds in the middle of the city. In addition, the park was equipped with light pavement, which is less heated up in the case of solar radiation and is also infiltrated in the rain. Play, fun and action for young and old

Citizen participation as a success factor
The wishes of the population were the focus of planning right from the start. Since March 2023, the GB*district office has collected wishes and suggestions from future park users. Many of these feedback has been included directly in the planning. For example, the wishes for grass and perennial beds, other trees, a drinking fountain and the range of games and sports could be implemented.
Funding program “Livable climate pattern city”
The redesign of the Vierthaler Park was implemented as part of the “Livelihood of Climate Pattern City” funding program. With this program, the city of Vienna supports projects of the districts that ensure more quality of life. Up to and including 2025, 20 million euros are available for climate adjustment measures each year. This year, the redesigned Paula-von-Mirtow-Park in Meidling could be opened as part of the program. The work for the redesign of the Ludwig-Zatzka park in the area of the forecourt of the S-Bahn station Breitensee will also be completed this year.
