The fight for affordable housing and fair healthcare characterize the decisions of the AK General Assembly

At the general assembly of the AK Upper Austria, the 110 chamber councilors discussed a total of 29 resolutions that had been introduced. The focus of the debate was on efficient measures for affordable housing, improvements in the health and care system and combating the consequences of inflation for employees. The chamber councilors from the six parliamentary groups unanimously passed eight resolutions.

The groups submitted seven resolutions, each in different constellations, to the debate. The Group of Social Democratic Trade Unionists (FSG) presented eleven resolutions, the Austrian Workers’ Association-FCG (ÖAAB-FCG) and the Freedom Workers-FPÖ (FA) four each, and the Alternative, Greens and Independent Trade Unionists (AUGE/UG) two resolutions the Trade Union Left Bloc (GLB) is up for discussion. “Your Non-Party Interest Group” (PFG) declined the opportunity to introduce a resolution.

Eight out of 29 resolutions passed unanimously
The representatives of the six parliamentary groups unanimously passed the following eight of the 29 resolutions: “Increase in contributions to the employee pension fund (“new severance payment”) to at least three percent is urgently needed” (presented by FSG/ÖAAB-FCG/FA-FPÖ/AUGE-UG, PFG), “Health is not a commodity! Against further privatization in the health system!” (FSG/FA-FPÖ/AUGE-UG/GLB/PFG), “Continuing education without unpleasant surprises – security in educational leave and a living qualification allowance with legal entitlement!”, “Ensure fair and rapid health care for everyone “, “Clear commitment to the AUVA accident hospital in Linz”, “Target fraudulent packaging and ‘shrinkflation'” in a targeted manner!” (all FSG), “Automatic compensation in the event of airline insolvency and flight rebookings urgently required” and “Change to the legal regulations for operating cost accounting Tenant change” (both ÖAAB-FCG).

Eleven resolutions were adopted by a majority: “The Labor Constitution Act needs necessary adjustments for another 50 years of this successful model” (FSG/ÖAAG-FCG/AUGE-UG/GLB/PFG), “More fairness and security of supply on the electricity market” (FSG/A.FPÖ/ AUGE-UG/PFG), “Create a housing investment bank and urgently implement an effective rent cap” (FSG/AUGE-UG/PFG), “End homelessness – expansion instead of savings in homeless assistance” (AUGE-UG/GLB/ÖAAB-FCG/ PFG), “Shaping digital and ecological transformation in Austria and Europe in the interests of employees,” Investing more money in effective labor market policy and the AMS,” “Improving pay, training conditions and housing options for apprentices in Upper Austria,” “No increase the retirement age and improve the pension system”, “Non-contributory elementary education: create equal rights and opportunities for all children!”, “Rapidly introduce a steering vacancy tax for apartments” and “Relieve the burden on employees and reduce tax imbalances” (all FSG).

Two resolutions were rejected by the majority: “Democratic reform of the Chamber of Labor – no arbitrary co-optation into the board against the will of the voters and at the expense of the AK members” (FA-FPÖ/ÖAAB-FCG) and “Adjust wages and salaries to inflation (AUGE-UG) .

The AK General Assembly assigned eight resolutions to the respective responsible AK committees for clarification and further treatment: “No taxation of overtime bonuses!”, “Abolition of the proportional pension adjustment – aliquoting”, “Increase of the additional earnings limit for various pension groups”, “Impulses for affordable Home ownership for employees in Austria” (all FA-FPÖ), “Change to the designation ‘disabled’ in legal texts is urgently needed”, reform of the pension fund system to ensure fair and sustainable pensions is urgently needed” (both ÖAAB-FCG) and “Easier access to the sixth Vacation week” (AUGE-UG) and “50 years of the 40-hour week: Bring on the reduction in working hours!” (GLB).
