The federal government no longer fulfills the hiring obligation according to the Employment of Persons with Disabilities Act

Worrying decline in federal employees with disabilities

Vienna (OTS) An answer to a parliamentary question from NAbg that became known at the end of March 2024. Alois Kainz and other MPs through Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler shows that for the first time since 2007 the federal government is not fulfilling its hiring obligation under the Disability Employment Act. Kogler, who is responsible for the federal civil service in the government, explained in the answer to the query that the fulfillment of the obligation to recruit in accordance with the Disabled Persons Employment Act had been missed by all departments by a total of more than 100 people.

It is incomprehensible that the federal government, despite all its possibilities, is unable to employ enough people with disabilities.“, explains Martin Ladstätter, Vice President of the Austrian Council for the Disabled.

In view of the unemployment rate, which rose by 0.7 points to 6.9 percent compared to March of the previous year, the Austrian Council for the Disabled believes that immediate countermeasures are essential.

The federal service is supposed to be a role model for employing people with disabilities, but the reality is different. There has been a worrying decline over the last four years.“, says Ladstätter in conclusion.
