The crisis in Venezuela is particularly older

Osnabrück (OTS) –

In Venezuela, many older people have nothing more – except memories and daily effort to survive. Children and grandchildren have fled to find protection and perspective. In the meantime, Venezuelans present more asylum applications in the EU in the first half of 2025 than people from Syria. The Osnabrück aid organization Helpage Deutschland EV has been supporting refugees from Venezuela along the escape route to Colombia with drinking water, food, hygiene supply and medical help.

The political and economic crisis of Venezuela, which is characterized by hyperinflation, lack of food and the collapse of the health system, has triggered strong escape movements in Venezuela’s residents, especially Colombia, and to EU countries. Helpage has been supporting particularly vulnerable refugees such as older people, women, people with impairment or indigenous communities along the main escape routes and in their Colombian recording communities with access to clean drinking water, food and sanitary facilities as well as for health care in Colombia. “The crisis in Venezuela forces millions of people to flee – both to neighboring countries and Europe. Our work in the region helps to immediately improve the situation of those affected,” says Helpage press spokeswoman Nadine Fels.

Javier Manrique, employee of Helpages local partner organization Convite with his own escape experience, sees great challenges for his home country. The motivation and the courage to continue his self -sacrificing work in favor of his compatriots pulls the doctor from his conviction: “If each of us would take some time to help others, we could change the world.” Mr. Manrique is available for interviews on the situation in Venezuela. Inquiries will be made by email flotmann@helpage.de accepted.
