Vienna (OTS) – Signa Holding GmbH, the umbrella of Tyrolean billionaire René Benko’s Signa empire, filed for bankruptcy today at the Vienna Commercial Court. The aim now is to ensure an “orderly continuation of operational business” and a “restructuring” of the company. Signa had been under pressure for some time due to rising interest rates and construction costs as well as falling real estate valuations, and work had been stopped on some major construction sites. How could this major bankruptcy happen unnoticed by many for a long time? What can happen next for the group? And what consequences does bankruptcy have for jobs, banks and the real estate industry?
