The concerts of the Vienna Cultural Summer take place in the Haus zur Leben

For the 5th time, Vienna’s most popular musicians are playing for free in the gardens of pensioners’ homes. External guests are also very welcome!

Vienna (OTS) Anyone who dares to step into one of the gardens of Vienna’s pensioners’ homes these days will hardly be able to escape the charm and good humor of the scenario on offer here: residents of the pensioners’ homes co-conducting, (sitting) dancing and singing along have fun together with people of all generations from the respective neighborhood at garden concerts… Yes: it’s cultural summer again!

Since July 1st and until August 8th, 2024, garden concerts have been taking place in the Haus zum Leben for the 5th time this year as part of the Vienna Cultural Summer. For the first time, all concerts are also open to external guests and the free offer has been very well received by people of all ages from the district.

Christian Hennefeind, managing director of Haus zum Leben, explains the initiative as follows: “For those residents who have limited mobility and find it difficult to attend concerts, we bring the world of music and cabaret into our house. The spark of joy of life that regularly jumps from the stage to the audience is the most beautiful confirmation for us.”

Siglind Güttler, head of the cultural summer, says: “The garden concerts in the houses for living are an important part of the cultural summer in Vienna. The program for the residents of the Houses to Live is intended to awaken beautiful memories from the past and radiate a lot of joy in life!” This year, the actor and director Karl Markovics kicked off with the musicians Marie-Theres Stickler and Peter Havlicek. Together they talked and sang about the city in the garden of the Augarten house and enchanted the numerous visitors with their interpretation of the Viennese song.

Viennese songs, jazz, swing, world music

As far as music genres are concerned, the focus at this year’s garden concerts is on well-loved Viennese songs. But jazz, swing and world music sounds are also played in the gardens. The artists include well-known names such as Sandra Pires, Agnes Palmisano, Andy Lee Lang, “Fifi” Pissecker, Georgij Makazaria (Gentlemen Music Club) and many more. Simon Bluma, deputy managing director of Houses to Live, concludes: “The joint garden concerts for residents and people from the Grätzl are particularly important to us, because the future strategy of Houses to Live also envisages extensive opening of the houses to people from the neighborhood before.”

It is advisable to find out more about the registration modalities on the Houses for Living website, as there is a limited number of visitors for some concerts.

If the weather is bad or it is too hot, the concerts will be moved to cooled halls.
