When The Body Shop announces today that it will be the world’s first global beauty brand* to offer 100% vegan product formulations across all areas, including skin care, body care, hair care, makeup and fragrance, millions of eyes around the world will be roll. The entire product portfolio has been certified by the Vegan Society.** The pioneering beauty retailer has achieved the ambitious goal it set for itself in 2021, when 60% of its products already bore the Vegan Society seal.

The Body Shop was also the first beauty retailer to launch a campaign against animal testing for cosmetics in 1989 because of its belief that animals should not be abused for beauty. As the fight for a global ban on animal testing in cosmetics continues, a fully vegan range represents The Body Shop’s next milestone in cruelty-free beauty.

The vegan cosmetics industry is forecast to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.31% between 2023 and 2028, reaching $24 billion by 2028(1). Since more than one in ten young people say that “vegan” is an important factor in their health and beauty purchasing decisions(2), The Body Shop is also taking this step into account with the growing demands of its customers.

The Vegan Society represents the global gold standard in vegan product certification across multiple industries and is a trusted seal of approval for The Body Shop products. The certification process for obtaining the seal is carried out extremely carefully and every supplier and manufacturer of raw materials within the product catalog is meticulously checked. For The Body Shop, this meant that over 4,000 ingredients for more than 1,000 products had to be validated in order to carry the seal.
