Musically talented and ready for the big stage? The Austrian Federal Army is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and is inviting you to an unprecedented competition: We are looking for a fanfare that musically captures the values and commitment of the Federal Army to protect the population. What is particularly in demand are contemporary tonal language, creative rhythms and a fanfare that embodies the spirit of “Mission Forward” – the Army’s motto for the future.
Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “This competition offers a unique opportunity to present a new composition to a broad audience. We are looking forward to receiving many submissions, as participation is open to anyone interested, regardless of whether they are young talents or experienced composers.”
Opportunity for young musicians
The three best fanfares will be awarded a total of Ꞓ 9,000 in prize money. In addition, the winning fanfare will be performed at the 2025 Military Music Festival – live on ORF. The works are evaluated anonymously to ensure equal opportunities. The deadline for entries is February 9, 2025. About the anniversary year “70 Years of the Federal Army”
In the anniversary year 2025, a bridge from the past directly to the future of the Austrian armed forces – “Mission Forward” will be presented. In the course of this, activities will be carried out that, in addition to historical documentation, will also communicate the role of the Austrian Armed Forces with its “Mission Forward” in accordance with the 2032+ recovery plan into the next decade and beyond.
Military Music Festival 2025
The military music festival will take place this year on May 7th and 8th, 2025 in the Salzburgarena. A brilliant show awaits you with over 800 musicians from Austrian and international military bands. On the occasion of the anniversary year, well-known pieces from the last decades will be presented. Admission is free – your donation is valuable. All donations go 100% to LICHT INS DUNKEL.
