Under the leading topic “Polarities of Life”, the 10th World Congress for Psychotherapy invites you to the Sigmund Freud Private University Vienna (SFU) from July 16 to 19, 2025. Organized by the World Council for Psychotherapy, this major international congress brings more than 400 international lectures and participants from all over the world and from various directions of psychotherapy. In the lecture program there are prominent names such as Peter Fonagy, Mark Solms, Emmy van Deurzen, Alfried Längle, Alfred Pritz, Judy Kuriansky, Sigrun Roßmanith, Omar Alshofre or Joseph Knobel Freud, the grandmother Sigmund Freuds. At the same time, young emerging researchers and therapists also have the opportunity to present their projects and perspectives.
Maria Gren, congress organizer, psychotherapy and psychotherapy scientist, means that “Due to the lively references to greats such as Freud, Adler or Frankl, Vienna is of course a particularly beautiful place for this year’s World Congress. We are pleased that we have a host with the SFU who not only bears Freud’s name, but also translated his ideas and humanistic basic attitude into the 21st century. Professional diversity and global relevance – The program includes top-class keynotes, interactive workshops, panels and roundtables and covers a broad spectrum of psychotherapeutic and interdisciplinary topics: child and adolescent psychotherapy, intercultural access, methodological basics, diagnostic methods, treatment techniques and interfaces to medicine, psychology, philosophy and other Disciplines. Current developments such as the influence of artificial intelligence on therapeutic practice or digital forms of diagnostics and treatment are also highly examined.
The lectures by Peter Fonagy and Mark Solms, which are internationally considered outstanding representatives of psychotherapeutic research and practice, are among the special highlights. Another moving item on the program is Omar Alshogre’s appearance, who impressively reports on his experiences as a former political prisoner in Syria – a lively testimony to resilience and the power of human.
A place with psychotherapeutic history – The choice of the event location for the 10th World Congress is no coincidence: Vienna, the city of Sigmund Freud, is not only cradle of modern psychotherapy, but also a lively place of interdisciplinary dialogue. The congress takes place in the two campus buildings of the Sigmund Freud University at Freudplatz 1 and 3.
