This year’s motto: „Curiosity“ On October 2nd, at the Graz trade fair congress, international top speakers and experts from industry, think tanks and start-ups discussed with around 250 participants from 23 nations at EBSCON 2024 how ‘Curiosity’ can be effective and effective in corporations enables highly profitable innovations. The courage to cooperate, including with start-ups, an open exchange on problems, a willingness to take risks and the associated careful analyzes were mentioned as important internal company resources. The framework conditions in Europe as a leading region in research, development and innovation, but which, in contrast to the USA and China, struggles with limited financing, were also in focus, as was the demand for the lost sustainability bonus for e-cars in the EU region to restore.
Curiosity’s global impact
“As the Silicon Alps Cluster, we see ourselves as translators between research and industry and, with a conference like this year’s EBSCON, we help to illuminate the necessary framework conditions for ‘Curiosity’ as a driver of innovation. Together with the participants, top international speakers and business delegations from 4 nations, we discussed the power of curiosity and identified resources that promote the freedom to be curious and thus promote groundbreaking inventions worldwide. We are already looking forward to EBSCON 2025, where – following the wishes of our participants – we will focus on even more innovations and networking as well as active dialogue,” says SILICON ALPS Cluster Managing Director Robert Gfrerer.

The final panel discussion included Michael Wiesmüller, Federal Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology, Alexander Bergmann, Institute of Electronic Sensor Systems, TU Graz, Bernhard Petermeier, XISTA science ventures, and Matthias Pirs, AT&S, Elisabetta Chicca, University of Groningen, and cluster managing director Robert Gfrerer about the framework conditions for “Curiosity”: Curiosity is the drive to understand things and to transform them into technical innovations. This requires an agreement within the company as well as small advances that do not pose any risk, according to the participants’ conclusion.
EBSCON 2025 will take place in October 2025 at the Messecongress Graz.
