Tenant Help provides information and checks free of charge – personal advice is in greater demand again
Vienna (OTS) – The results of the City of Vienna’s tenant assistance clearly show that the advice offered is well received. It is clear that personal advice was increasingly accepted again after the pandemic. In 2023, there were 15,000 consultations (an average of 60 daily) in the service center at Guglgasse 7-9 in the 3rd district, during mobile consultation tours and various events such as the Danube Island Festival or Vienna Housing Day, around a third more consultations than in the year previously carried out. Around 27,000 telephone consultations (108 daily) and around 11,000 written inquiries (44 daily) were carried out by the experts from the City of Vienna’s free service facility. Online access to the wide range of services at mieterhilfe.at is also at a consistently high level.

Be careful with rent increases
Tenant Help supports the review of rent increases – the biggest topic in the consultations in 2023. In addition, there were frequent inquiries in 2023 about rental agreements and clauses as well as maintenance work and obligations of landlords.
In principle, inquiries to the City of Vienna’s Tenant Help Center cover the entire range of tenancy law, from general questions about the rental agreement to operating cost accounting and redemption payments. However, requests for rent increases were at the forefront last year.
Verification pays off
“A review of the rental agreement by Tenant Help is free and often brings significant savings,” says the head of Tenant Help, Christian Bartok.
In order to get an overview of the support options in Vienna, MietHilfe has created a list of contact points on its own initiative. There you will find information and contacts on current topics such as energy cost compensation, climate bonuses and housing umbrellas, but also on support services for families, social benefits and food aid, as well as other savings options. The list is available for download on the website at mieterhilfe.at and is continually updated.
Free and competent advice
Support from the City of Vienna’s Tenant Help Center is always free of charge. It offers tenants a comprehensive advisory package that reviews rent, operating costs, any prohibited replacements and non-contractual clauses in the rental agreement, landlords’ maintenance obligations, etc. and subjects them to a thorough examination by experts.
