Talke Talks – agony of choice

Who do you actually choose in this Bundestag election? Oh, I always forget that in Germany you don’t talk about something like that. But I love to talk about elections and candidates, because I have multinational knowledge.

Let’s take my birthland Russia, for example. I never consciously participated in Russian presidential elections, at least not voluntarily. But at the end of 2011, long since living in Germany, my parents and I gave our passports at the Russian consulate for renewal and did not get back for many months, which is unusual. When we received her back in spring 2012 without justification or apology, my mother made an observation that can only come from someone who grew up in a corrupt injustice: “Oh, they retained them to choose with it.”

I, confessed from the West, looked incredulously, but then I remembered the malignant consulate employees who shocked me every time I was there with their behavior. Sometimes she screamed a woman so loudly that she cried bitterly, sometimes they ordered clothes from the designer outlet “Best Secret” directly into the office. Emotional abuse and unabashed acts in the workplace? The thesis of the election manipulation seemed more and more credible to me.

Regardless of whether Russian consulates are doing voting fraud abroad – this is of course the program in the country itself and the reason why my family otherwise did not come up with the idea of ​​participating in Russian elections.

I still have a positive election memory: to 1991, in which Yeltsin became the first president of the Russian Federation. I was only five, but there was a previously unknown smell of freedom and change in the air, at least the adults said that. Ultimately, only an alcoholic dance bear was chosen, which was only more brave for eight years. He then gave his post (more or less voluntarily) to a grizzly bear, which is very planned by incorrectly placed injections, which, apart from a small four -year break, which was bridged by the tiny Medwezhonok (Russian Bear “) Years hold at Russia’s top. Now a smell of fear and destruction over Russia is hovers, which is why I handed over my Russian pass two years ago. Otherwise I would not dare to tell you with such openness from my country of birth: I would be afraid that the stylish-evil consulate pusher will poison me at the next appointment!

I am now eight and a half years in my adopted home USA, which gradually begins to empathize like my original home. The new old president threatens to have the constitution changed in order to extend his reign, insulted journalists as an enemy of the people, oligarchs scraping around. Lauren Sánchez, the fiancee of Jeff Bezos, has already dressed very Russian for inauguration, only the associated audacity is missing. Others: Conservative Americans actually want to make us make that Elon Musk presented a so -called Roman greeting instead of a German (with the “salvation”) during the inauguration. This is the finest gaslighting, and no – the joke that is now upset would be too cheap for me.

But now to the only country whose passport I have that I call my true home and in which you read this column: I have been officially potato since I was 16. In contrast to my Russia story, I absolutely wanted to choose in the last Bundestag election, but I couldn’t be able to choose: My postal voting documents arrived too late in Texas! Now the postal election time was also reduced from six to two weeks, and the risk that my voice will not count again has grown. And that when I have to stop the AfD! Do you want to know who I want to choose? I thought we didn’t talk about it.
