Helmut Bieler, Interimistic President of the Pensioners’ Association of Austria (PVÖ) rejects the so -called “sustainability mechanism” for the pensions presented by the Federal Government: “The intended spending cover for the pensions from 2030 can be used as a ‘license for pension cuts’!” Bieler therefore calls on the representatives of the federal government to quickly have talks with the senior representatives. ****
The interim president of the retirement association recalls that the PVÖ had already expressed its skepticism compared to the “sustainability mechanism”, which was still very unclear in the official working paper, when the Federal Government’s work program was presented. “Even then, we unequivocally clarified that the pensioners are not allowed to be the scapegoats or the milking cows for the budget. Furthermore, those responsible have to be clear: Pensions are not alms that can be distributed and shortened at will. They are services that have been acquired through decades of employment and contributions. Mechanism, which leads to pension cuts from a certain amount of expenditure, is decidedly rejected.
