Susanne List-Tretthahn, head of the training department in the Austria’s library association (BVÖ), was elected as the new chairman of the “Education and Training” section of the IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institution). In addition to her work in the BVÖ in August 2025, she takes over for 2 years. The section coordinates international educational strategies, is available to libraries with expertise and organizes conferences.
List-Tretthahn (39) has been with the BVÖ since 2014 and has since become a teacher and as a lecturer at international congresses the reputation of a proven expert in library training. As the first Austrian, she now takes over the chair of this committee.
“Our goal is to give all people free access to information and knowledge. In order for it to succeed, employees in libraries must be able to give orientation. This ability can be learned through good training and further education,” says List-Trethahn.
“I look forward to this task. In addition to coordinating the activities of the section, I would like to promote international cooperation in the field of education”.
