On February 5th at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Christoph Feurstein will present the following contributions in “Thema” on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 9:10 p.m. on ORF 2:

Survived two murder attempts – the blinded victim in an interview

“She destroyed my life. Today I’m really scared of her.” That’s what Andreas Friedrich from Glinzendorf in Lower Austria says about his ex-girlfriend Bernadette H. in the “Thema” interview. She is said to have poisoned him with a methanol cocktail in the summer of 2022. The electromechanic survives. But he has been blind since then. Shortly before that, he had included the confectioner in his will. “I just loved her so much.” Just a few months later, Bernadette H. is said to have poisoned him again and cut his wrists. Andreas Friedrich survives again. It wasn’t the final act of an incredible story. Bernadette H. is in custody today. A report by Leon Hoffmann-Ostenhof.

Three women sexually assaulted

“I cried during the attack and he painted a tear on me,” reports Miriam N. She was painted in her private area and penetrated with a brush. The young woman modeled for a renowned Austrian painter for a body painting calendar in 2006. She had just turned 18 at the time. After a long struggle with the psychological consequences, she reported the suspected sexual assault to a women’s advice center in 2021. Then she finds out about a court case against the painter. The reports of two other women about incidents from 2022 are similar in every detail. The trial against the now 77-year-old artist ends with a guilty verdict. Pia Bichara and Andrea Poschmaier report.

Into space for 56 minutes

“I had tears of joy in my eyes. The view of the Earth is incredible!” Waldviertel native Franz Haider waited 17 years to fly into space and paid $200,000 for it. The 61-year-old former transport operator was at the end of January with the private space company Virgin Galactic. “I realized a dream that I had since I was seven years old,” says the space tourist. Are such trips still appropriate in times of impending climate catastrophe? Thomas Brudermann, sustainability researcher at the University of Graz, is critical of this. “Some might say, why should I behave in a climate-friendly manner while others fly into space for fun?” Sonja Hochecker reports.

Carnival – Why we dress up

“My heart hurts when I think about selling all of this,” says Carla Dögl. She runs one of the largest costume rental shops in Austria in Traiskirchen. But now she is 80 and wants to retire. You can find everything you need to slip into a different role, from Cleopatra disguises to Star Wars outfits. Dögl does not see the fact that the now controversial Indian costumes are still popular as a problem. However, researchers at the University of Vienna advise sensitivity in these “foolish times”. Markus Waibel on the phenomenon of the “fifth season”.
