At the 24th day of the sport, domestic associations and clubs, top athletes: inside and young talents, were the star of the day the approximately 80 hands-on stations for young and old.
Heldenplatz filled up in the morning, and the enthusiasm for sports was noticeable from the National Library to Volksgarten, from Hofburg to hero gate. With over 80 hands-on stations, top-class stage shows and a star contingent of Olympic champions: inside, world and European champions: Inside, the Ministry of Sport offered a program that started sports fans of all ages.
More than an event
“The day of sport has long been more than an event, it is a real highlight for small and large sports fans. Over 80 sports have been tried, around 100 domestic associations presented themselves,” said sports state secretary Michaela Schmidt about the strong rush-and did not miss the opportunity to try out numerous sports from table tennis to tobogganing to bungee jumping.
A total of hundreds of thousands of visitors visited: inside the 24th edition of the day of sport. And they got a colorful program of movement, encounter and enthusiasm. There was a special offer in the lounge of the Ministry of Sports: There were visitors: Inside at the Expert: Inside competitive sports Austria, making a free fitness check or gaining great prizes at the grip-in-handed challenge.
“I am happy about the enormous interest! The day of sport impressively shows how diverse and successfully sport in Austria and how great people’s interest is,” says Schmidt.
Numerous honors and awards
On the main stage and in the Hall of Fame, Austria’s most successful athletes were honored: instead of cups, tree sponsorships again received tree sponsorship as part of the environmental project “Baumbuddy” – a lively symbol for sustainable sports success.
Traditionally, the athletes were awarded again this year: the inside of the police, Bundesheer and customs. From World Cup winner: Inside about the Paralympics hero: There were numerous medalists inside: inside in the spotlight. One of the clearers, ski star Raphael Haaser, visibly enjoyed the bath in the crowd. “It is always beautiful to be here at the day of sport. It is a very important event for Austria and we are happy about everyone who has come today,” said the giant slalom world champion of Saalbach.
Silent hero: inside in front of the curtain
In addition to the big names, those people who keep sport in Austria in the background were celebrated again in 2025. The volunteer award, endowed with 50,000 euros, awarded in seven categories, distinguished functional: interior and club members who, through their commitment, lay the foundation for success in latitudes and top sport.
“Sports enthusiastic and connected. Without the work of more than 500,000 volunteers, this system does not work, they are the heart of sport in Austria. With this price we say thank you and make it visible how important your commitment is for our society,” said Schmidt at the award ceremony.
Hands-on stations and spectacular show acts
There was also a lot going on off the stages at the heroic square: among other things, show acts with cheerleaders provided enthusiasm: inside, dance groups and spectacular stunts that turned the heroic place into a huge open -air stage.
Trend sports such as Baseball5, Padel Tennis, Rope Skipping, Calisthenics or Spectacular Action on the mobile mini ski jump could also be tried out.
With its unique mix of top sport, popular sports and sustainability – certified with the environmental sign and as a green event – the day of sport also demonstrated in its 24th edition why it is the flagship of the Austrian sports movement.
