Successful start to the second round of the “Cities Trilogue” in Hamburg, Vienna and Zurich | City vienna

“Cooperation and exchange of experiences between partners is particularly important in times of multiple crises. A collaboration from which we all benefit,” says Ludwig.

Hamburg/Vienna (OTS) On June 27th and 28th, 2024, Zurich’s mayor Corine Mauch and Vienna’s mayor Michael Ludwig were in the Hanseatic city to continue the “trilogue” between the three cities that was launched in 2019 together with Hamburg’s first mayor Peter Tschentscher. This year’s meeting covered the topics: attractiveness of city centers, security, order and social measures at main train stations, autonomous driving and digital mobility as well as circular economy as a contribution to sustainable energy production.

In addition to working discussions, the two-day visit program also included a thematic supporting program. On Thursday the focus was on the city center: on the one hand, the situation around Hamburg Central Station and, on the other hand, the results of the “Round Table for the City Center”. On Friday, the focus was on mobility and climate protection projects.

Mayor Michael Ludwig: “We live in a time of multiple crises and this is where it becomes clear how beneficial it is that we are in contact with Hamburg and Zurich. It is therefore particularly important to me that in the second round of the city trilogue we not only maintain our relationships – both at the political and administrative level – but also further deepen them. That we work together to ensure that we not only maintain the quality of life in our cities – which are already among the most livable cities in the world – but also further expand them. Climate protection, ecological urban development, urban mobility, energy supply and affordable, sustainable living are central issues of our time that concern us together. Here we benefit from the exchange of experiences and also learn from our partners’ solutions. I would like to thank Peter Tschentscher for the exciting and informative two days in Hamburg!”

The 5th trilogue will take place in Vienna in 2025.

Background information

The trilogue is based on an initiative by Hamburg’s first mayor, Dr. Tschentscher and is a format at the level of the mayors of Hamburg and Vienna as well as the mayor of Zurich, which provides the opportunity for exchange on (large-scale) urban projects, challenges and future development strategies. The idea behind this is that metropolises face similar issues and can learn from and cooperate with each other in the spirit of best practices and through close exchange (city diplomacy).
