- The international market position of the EMD strengthens an important role in Poland
Strong Polish retail companies such as Grupa Eurocash (Delikesy Centrum, Lewiatan, Duzy Ben, Eurocash Sieci Partnerskie (ABC, Groszek, Euro Sklep), Partnerski System Detaliczny (GAMA)), Grupa Chorts and Netto Planning the foundation of a local shopping alliance. The goal of this measure is clearly set: With the merger in Poland, joining the leading shopping alliance in Europe, the European Marketing Distribution (EMD) AG, is also planned. The final accession is still subject to the prior approval of the merger.
Thanks to their new EMD membership, the new Polish members want to expand their European procurement options and achieve significant savings in their supply chain. These advantages should be reinvested in the strengthening of the offer for Polish customers.
The new EMD member, which is founded by Grupa Eurocash, Grupa Chorts and Netto, becomes the most important shopping community in Poland. With the joint market presence of around 20,000 branches across the country and total sales of over 12 billion euros, it is number 2 in Polish retail.
Subject to the approval of the merger by the Polish competitive authority and the establishment of the Polish joint venture, the new members will be involved in the joint procurement of private label products by the EMD and the offer of additional services for international A brand manufacturers by EMD.

The new EMD partnership opens up new opportunities for all manufacturers in industry that work in the Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) area.
While EMD and its member companies concentrate on the procurement and marketing of successful trademark products, the EMD members, which are merged in the EMD Retail Group, also realize in cooperation with the leading multinational A brand manufacturers, also cross-border services and marketing concepts.
In the EMD Retail Group, the Polish purchasing alliance, subject to antitrust approval, will work with selected and successful trading companies in its respective home countries from 2026. The members of the EMD Retail Group already include the Euromadi Alfa Group from Spain, ESD Italia, Superunie from the Netherlands, RTG International from Germany and Axfood from Sweden, which also includes this group from 2026.
The central tasks of the members of the EMD Retail Group and the new member from Poland are clearly defined: the procurement and optimal marketing of well-known and popular top branded products (including country-specific innovations and variants of these A brands), which are important for customers in international retail. The EMD Retail Group works with the most renowned manufacturers in the industry, including the providers of these A brands.
