Strasser: New law for contemporary agricultural and forestry vocational training

Instead of nine state laws, training is now uniformly regulated nationwide for the first time

Vienna (OTS/ÖVP-PK) The Agricultural and Forestry Vocational Training Act (LFBAG) was passed in the National Council today. With this amendment, the nine different state laws are merged into one federal law. “We are simplifying the agricultural and forestry education system and at the same time strengthening training. At this point I would like to thank our Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnig, who has consistently supported this amendment,” says ÖVP agriculture spokesman and MP DI Georg Strasser, but at the same time emphasizes: “It is regrettable that the FPÖ refused their consent to this important law. In doing so, the Freedom MPs have made it clear how important agriculture and forestry are to this party.”

Retroactively from January 1, 2024, the master craftsman examination will be free of charge, meaning that master craftsman training will also be financially supported in the future. The title “Master” or “Master” can also be entered in official documents in the future. “This is an important step towards greater fairness compared to other training tracks. The master’s examination is the highest qualification level for agricultural and forestry professions in Austria. It enables our farmers to train apprentices themselves. We need well-trained and motivated farmers who can ensure the continued existence of our agriculture. “We have succeeded with this law,” emphasizes Strasser.

The LFBAG 2024 also created the new apprenticeship “professional hunting management”, which is intended to strengthen the quality of skilled workers in this area. There are now a total of 16 different apprenticeships in the agricultural sector. “We live in turbulent times, agriculture and forestry are facing many, and above all new, challenges. The more well-founded and specific we train our young people, the better we can react to them and master them well,” explains Strasser.

“Solid training forms the foundation for a successful farm takeover and sustainable management of our agricultural operations. The LFBAG 2024 promotes incentives to pursue and continue the educational path in agriculture. Our masters are the specialists and managers of tomorrow,” concludes Strasser.
